Running your own business from home is great. And so is having no boss.

Me? I never actually had a boss. But a lot of my family and friends do, and it looks like it sucks.

This doesn’t mean you don’t have to do anything when you run a home-based business. You do. You have a business to manage, suppliers and customers to work with and promotional activities to take care of.

So no matter how simple your business is, you’re still going to have to do some work. The good news is it’ll be less work than you do in a full-time job.

Here’s the 3 reasons why working for yourself at home is amazing.

Reason 1. It may not take up any extra time at all.

Sounds strange, but with the average commute to work now tipping well over 1.5 hours each way, you score an extra 15 hours or more a week. Add to that the time you take to get ready for work and you’re easily sitting on 20 hours or more.

My business, importing from China takes around 15 hours a week to run, and I make over $25,000 a week. Admittedly it took about 3 years to build up to this, but it goes to show what’s possible in the 15 hours you probably spend commuting.

Reason 2. You set your own schedule.

If you’re working now, odds are you’re on somebody else’s schedule. Perhaps you start at 8:30 and finish at 5. But what if you wanted to change this. Could you?

You can when you work from home. If you’ve got kids you can just work while they’re at school. Or you can get up early and get your work day done by mid-morning. You could even do a couple of hours in the morning and a couple in the evening, and the rest of the day is yours.

Reason 3. Your earning potential is unlimited.

One of the weirdest things people tell me about full-time work is pay rises. If they do the bare minimum they might get a 2% raise. However if they work hard, do lots of overtime and take on huge amounts of extra responsibility they might get a 5% raise.

And that doesn’t seem fair.

When you work from home in your own business, you choose how much money you make. If you’re selling products online like me, you can add some extra product lines. Or spend some time finding cheaper sources for the same things. Or list your products on more sites and make more sales.

It’s not uncommon to see people double their business every year. All you do is follow this simple rule of thumb:

Spend HALF your time running your business, and HALF your time expanding your business.

Spend a few extra hours on growth activities and you can easily double your profits every year.
